Ep 239, Everything’s Better When the Sustainability Team is in Charge – the Inspiring Tale of Lafaani

R|ElanTM Circular Design Challenge in partnership with the United Nations in India brings you a circular fashion mini-series with the chart-topping podcast, The Wardrobe Crisis and Drishti Modi and Rashmick Bose, the duo behind slow fashion brand Lafaani.

THE WARDROBE CRISIS is a sustainable fashion platform that stands for a fairer, greener, cleaner fashion future that respects people and planet and recognises the power of dialogue, listening and learning. The chart-topping podcast launched in July 2017 is now in its 11th series. Each week, host Clare Press interviews designers, change-makers, academics, creatives and fashion insiders about fashion, ethics, social justice and environmental sustainability.

In this episode, CDC Runners-up, Drishti Modi and Rashmick Bose of Lafaani decode all things sustainability, moving from observing flying lizards in the Western Ghats, or surveying toilet numbers in remote villages, to staging runway shows, and making wonderful trench coats dyed with marigolds diverted from temple waste-streams.

“We kept asking each other- why do people have to accept that sustainability is an add-on? We realize that while sustainability may be the foundation of what we do and the values that drive us, it needs to be design-led. And I think we’ve had a journey.”
